Die neue Tesla-Rennserie EPCS („Electric Production Car Series“) – früher Electric GT – sollte bereits 2017 starten, verzögert sich nun aber erneut. Zuletzt hieß es, dass das erste Rennen im November stattfinden wird. Ein konkreter neuer Termin wurde noch nicht genannt.

„Nahezu alles ist startbereit: Wir haben drei großartige Rennklassen konzipiert, die Genehmigung von der FIA erhalten und neue technische sowie Medien-Partner gewonnen“, teilte Mark Gemmel, der die EPCS-Dachorganisation Electric GT gegründet hat, mit.

Die für den Renneinsatz modifizierten Elektroautos vom Typ Tesla Model S wurden bereits ausgiebig getestet, offenbar fehlt es der EPCS aber noch an ausreichend finanziellen Mitteln. Gemmel: „Die finale Zutat ist die Bestätigung eines Investors, der unsere Vision von sauberer Energie und sauberem Transport teilt, was wesentlich für den Start der Meisterschaft auf dem höchstmöglichen Niveau ist.“

Bevor kein neuer Großinvestor gefunden ist, soll kein aktualisierter Starttermin für die EPCS veröffentlicht werden. Die Macher der EPCS sind weiter zuversichtlich, ihr Projekt bald starten zu können. „Wie jedes Startup testen und adaptieren wir unsere Strategie, um sicherzugehen, dass das Timing stimmt und der Markt bereit ist“, so Gemmel.
