Teslas große Elektroautos Model S und Model X dürften kurz- bis mittelfristig umfassend überarbeitet werden. Beide Stromer werden zwar laufend aufgefrischt, die zugrundeliegende Plattform ist aber bereits etwas in die Jahre gekommen. Nun gibt es mögliche neue Details zu einem nahenden weitreichenden Update.
Insbesondere mit Blick auf das 2012 eingeführte Model S gibt es seit längerem Gerüchte, dass die Limousine technisch und optisch schon bald neu dastehen wird. Der US-Blog Electrek will nun erste Informationen zu den geplanten Änderungen erfahren haben.
Sowohl für das Model S wie das 2015 gestartete SUV Model X soll eine weitreichende Aktualisierung geplant sein. Im Fokus stünden der elektrische Antriebsstrang und der Innenraum. Dies lasse sich aus der aktuellen Software herauslesen, die offenbar bereits für kommende Generationen vorbereitet wird.
Die zentrale Neuerung beim E-Antrieb von Model S und X soll ein Umstieg von 18650- auf 2170-Batteriezellen sein. Letztere, für den Mittelklassewagen Model 3 entwickelte Akkus bieten eine höhere Energiedichte und sind günstiger in der Herstellung. Es wird erwartet, dass für das Model S und X in naher Zukunft mehr als die verfügbaren maximal 100 kWh Batteriekapazität angeboten werden. Die Reichweite von derzeit bis zu 632 Kilometer nach NEFZ-Norm dürfte deutlich steigen.
Beim Laden der Batterie sollten Teslas Top-Baureihen die auf 250 kW steigende Leistung der Supercharger-Schnelllader demnächst voll ausnutzen. Ebenfalls auf dem Programm soll ein Umstieg auf den CCS-Standard für in Europa ausgelieferte Fahrzeuge stehen. Darüber hinaus arbeite Tesla an effizienteren Elektromotoren.
Die neuen Versionen von Model S und X könnten laut Electrek bereits kommenden Juni starten. Dies gelte für die Antriebstechnik und auch das Interieur.
Für den Innenraum ist ein ähnlich minimalistisches Design wie beim Model 3 vorgesehen, heißt es. Dazu gehöre ein freistehender Touchscreen für die Anzeige und Bedienung aller wichtigen Fahrzeugfunktionen. Das Interieur dürfte zudem aufgewertet werden, um die im Premium-Segment angesiedelten Model S und X stärker von der Volumen-Baureihe Model 3 abzugrenzen. Was Tesla für das Außendesign plant, ist noch offen.
Der Absatz des Model S und X hat in den vergangenen Monaten an Dynamik verloren. Dies dürfte nicht nur an der Expansion Teslas mit dem erschwinglicheren Model 3 liegen. Model S und X müssen sich zunehmend mit dem Elektroauto-Angebot etablierter Hersteller wie Audi, BMW oder Mercedes messen, die in den oberen Segmenten weiter von vielen Käufern bevorzugt werden.
Da die aktuellen Fahrzeuge von Tesla trotz jüngerer Konkurrenz die Branche weiter anführen, dürfte die neue Generation von Model S und X die Messlatte für moderne Elektroautos abermals verschieben. Eine offizielle Erklärung oder konkrete Details zu den Plänen gibt es bislang allerdings nichts.
