Tesla Cybertruck’s polarizing design caught the world by storm when it made its November 2019 debut in Los Angeles. Much like the stainless steel exterior, which has largely been the focal point of discussion, Cybertruck’s unique kitchen counter-like, marble dashboard is something that’s been on people’s minds. Except, it’s not marble.
The Cybertruck dashboard is fabricated from paper composite materials that have a resemblance to the popular marble look that is often found in today’s kitchens and bathrooms. Environmentally-friendly homes have often leveraged the use of sustainable materials, including kichen countertops made of paper, wood-based fibers, natural wood pigments, and non-petroleum based resins. These materials are then combined and baked at extremely high temperatures to create a durable and dense material that is water-resistant, environmentally sustainable, and very cost-effective. Something that sounds like it would be right out of Tesla’s playbook.
Paper composite materials have been available for years, but they have been utilized in science labs, fabrication shops, and industrial kitchens. This would be the first known instance of a paper composite material being used in a mass-production vehicle and quite fitting for an automaker pushing toward sustainability. Tesla’s dash materials in past cars have been made from leather or synthetic leather. The company moved to a 100% vegan interior after pressure from animal-rights groups, and have since vowed to scrap the use of animal products in its vehicles.
While it is unknown what Tesla’s angle was behind the use of this material, and also whether this will be in Cybertruck’s final production version, we know that it is economically reasonable in terms of price, and may have been a factor in the company’s aim to keep the truck affordable. And having a dash material that’s as sustainable as the vehicle gives its target demographic another reason to consider buying a Tesla.
Outlined in Elon Musk’s Master Plan, the goal of Tesla was to find sustainable transportation for the everyday driver. As the company has evolved, its focus has remained on becoming conscious of its environmental impact through reduced emissions, but it has shifted toward using Earth-friendly materials within the car as well. The new dash in the Cybertruck is not only unique and eye-catching, but it also reminds the driver and passengers that they are riding in a machine that is contributing to Earth-friendly transportation, one mile at a time.

Following the unveiling of Tesla’s Cybertruck last week, CEO Elon Musk has hinted that a smaller version of the futuristic pickup may be coming in the future. This statement from Musk came after some potential owners expressed they would be interested in a more compact version of the recently-unveiled vehicle that would be more suitable for smaller driveways and residences.
Tesla unveiled the Cybertruck on November 21. The all-electric truck from the company based out of Silicon Valley caught the eye of many people due to its unique and unorthodox shape. One Twitter follower of Musk’s requested a smaller truck down the road, as he facetiously expressed the vehicle may block his whole street. Musk replied, saying that it “probably makes sense to build a smaller Cybertruck too.”

The size of the Cybertruck is a big talking point for those who are interested in the vehicle. Its futuristic and unusually modern shape is a design that has not been used in the past by any other car manufacturer. However, not everyone who wants or needs to own a truck for either work or leisure can house this gigantic pickup.
Other manufacturers have had success varying the sizes of their trucks by releasing multiple models of the same body style. Ford, for example, has done this with its F-Series that has gained the reputation as the most popular line of pickup trucks in the U.S. in 2019, with the F-150 being recognized as the most popular truck in the country, according to J.D. Power. In terms of dimensions, the Cybertruck is similar to the F-150 and Dodge Ram 1500.

Tesla’s Cybertruck will give owners more storage capacity than any other pickup on the market right now thanks to its bed that is nearly a foot longer than the other two vehicles. The Ford F-150 XL has 62.5 cubic feet of storage, and while this is the company’s smallest version of the truck, it packs 62% of the storage capacity compared to the 100 cubic feet offered by Tesla’s Cybertruck. The 2020 Dodge Ram 1500 offers 61.5 cubic feet, just one foot less than the F-150 but still only a fraction of Tesla’s new “Bladerunner-Esque” pickup.
Tesla may find it beneficial down the road to try and create a smaller variation of the Cybertruck. The truck, while available in different variants as far as the number of engines, is only available in one size. While more cargo space is definitely a plus, there are certainly plenty of reasons why it could be the reason someone does not buy the vehicle. Some people simply do not have the room for a large truck, especially if they live in a small house or community where there is not enough room for the vehicle. The Twitter user who reached out to Musk recognized that the truck would be a great vehicle to own, but it may not be the most logical thing to buy considering he does not have space for it.
Elon Musk has proven to us in the past that he is a man of the people. He listens to the requests of potential Tesla owners and uses them to improve the vehicles Tesla manufactures. While the Cybertruck does not begin production until late 2021, there is plenty of time for Musk and Tesla’s team of designers to come up with a modified design that would appeal to those who do not have the need for the massive Cybertruck.

The Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) Cybertruck’s unveiling event could have easily gone better, with the vehicle’s disruptive specs and pricing pretty much getting pushed to the background by media coverage of the pickup’s less-than-stellar Armor Glass demonstration. Cracked windows aside, the fact remains that the Cybertruck starts at $39,990, a price that’s as aggressive as the vehicle’s almost brutalist design. It’s also a price that shows that Tesla is at a point where it actually can experiment and be bolder than usual. This should scare TSLA critics.
The Cybertruck is a massive vehicle, as long as a Ford F-150 and far more powerful as teased by the company’s tug-of-war demo that it briefly showed during the pickup’s unveiling. It’s also unapologetically futuristic, with a 17″ landscape infotainment screen that’s not found in any of Tesla’s other vehicles. It has pop-out door handles that are directly inspired by the premium-priced Model S as well. And these are just the tip of the iceberg, as the Cybertruck has a ton of other features and capabilities that make it a great vehicle for work and play.
Yet, the monster of a truck that Tesla unveiled starts at a price that’s just slightly above the base price of the Model 3 sedan. There was a reason why gasps could be heard at the vehicle’s unveiling when the Cybertruck’s pricing was revealed. Elon Musk has noted during his interview with Tesla owner-enthusiast Ryan McCaffrey last June that the Cybertruck will start at $49,000 at the most. Absolutely no warning was given that Tesla was going for a far more aggressive starting price, especially considering the vehicle’s built-in tech such as its adaptive suspension and basic Autopilot capabilities.
The fact that the Cybertuck is designed in such a polarizing manner suggests that Tesla has some funding to spare. By releasing such a vehicle, the electric car maker has shown the auto market that it is at a point where it can be bold and take ridiculous risks such as releasing a truck that looks nothing like a conventional pickup. Elon Musk has admitted as much, noting during an appearance at veteran tech journalist Kara Swisher’s Recode Decode podcast that if the Cybertruck were to fail, Tesla will make a more conventional truck. Musk’s words then, spoken over a year ago, rings true today.
“I’m personally super-excited by this pickup truck. It’s something I’ve been wanting to make for a long time. And I’ve been iterating sort of designs with Franz. If there’s only a small number of people that like that truck, I guess we’ll make a more conventional truck in the future. I think this is the kinda thing the consumer would want to buy, even if they don’t normally buy a pickup truck. So, anyway, that’s personally I’m most excited about. But like I said, it could be just like, okay, I weirdly like it and other people don’t. That’s possible. But we’re gonna make it anyway, and then we will just have a niche audience, I don’t know. But if it does, then we’ll make a more conventional pickup truck,” Musk said.

Tesla has, for the most part over the years, operated with limited resources. Elon Musk is a risk-taker, and some of these were so notable that they were considered as “bet-the-company” situations. The Model 3 was one of these, with Musk noting that if the all-electric sedan were had failed, it would have likely ruined Tesla for good. Considering the bold direction that the company took with the Cybertruck, as well as Elon Musk’s statements last year, it definitely appears that the all-electric monster pickup that Tesla just unveiled is not a bet-the-company vehicle. It is a truck that would be great if it succeeded, but it is also a vehicle that could be replaced if it were to fail.
This should be a chilling thought for Tesla critics, particularly those who feverishly wait for the next quarter’s numbers in their excitement to see TSLA stock drop. After all, if the Cybertruck were to fail and if Tesla were to make a conventional pickup truck, there is a good chance that the company’s more traditional truck would be even more aggressively priced. Such a pickup would likely outperform diesel-powered rivals as well in classic Tesla fashion as well. Such a truck, combined with Tesla’s ever-growing charging infrastructure and its ever-evolving Autopilot system, would have the potential to clean house in a manner that is not as kind as the Cybertruck, which will always be polarizing.
Tesla is a resilient company, one that weathered one of the worst financial crises in recent history, and it’s led by a man that’s hell-bent on pushing sustainable transportation by proving that electric cars are better in every way than fossil fuel-powered vehicles. It’s best to note that a Tesla with limited resources has proven that it can still disrupt established industries with well-designed, safe, and feature-rich electric cars. A Tesla with resources to spare? That’s a downright frightening idea if one is a TSLA critic.

Elon Musk’s Cybertruck is Tesla’s boldest vehicle yet. With its sharp edges and its unapologetically futuristic look, the Cybertruck appears to be a vehicle that is designed to shock and polarize. Yet, behind its almost brutalist exterior lies a clever theme that gives the Cybertruck the potential to be Tesla’s most disruptive vehicle to date, mainly due to its production efficiencies that are tied to its very exoskeleton.
When Tesla unveiled the Cybertruck on Thursday night, a good number of netizens and those who were in attendance at the event were shocked. The massive vehicle was clad in cold, hard, unpainted stainless steel, and its sharp triangular design makes it look extremely different from every other pickup truck on the market. Elon Musk has been saying that the Cybertruck will be polarizing, and it definitely was.
Unlike Tesla’s other vehicles like the Model S, X, and Model 3, the Cybertruck uses an exoskeleton that is made from a new variant of 3000 series stainless steel that’s cold-worked several times. The material is tough and is not unlike the steel used in SpaceX’s gigantic Starship. With this system in place, Tesla is able to skip the traditional stamping process for the vehicle’s body panels. Instead, the Cybertruck’s frame will be laser cut and folded, much like an origami that’s made of steel.
And just like actual Japanese origami, the Cybertruck’s stainless steel body is actually folded into shape instead of being cut up into several pieces and stamped multiple times by massive machines, according to an exclusive look into the vehicle by MotorTrend. Considering that the stamping process is very capital intensive (stamping machines are among the largest and most expensive components of a car factory), Tesla’s origami-style design for the Cybertruck becomes a very cost-effective way to produce a massive, durable, futuristic vehicle at relatively low cost.
Elon Musk recently elaborated on this in a recent tweet, stating that the Cybertruck’s 3mm-thick stainless steel exoskeleton is not very friendly to stamping machines. “Reason Cybertruck is so planar is that you can’t stamp ultra-hard 30X steel, because it breaks the stamping press,” Musk wrote.

Using stainless steel also allows Tesla to skip out on the painting of the vehicle, allowing the company to not use a paint shop in the vehicle’s production process. This results in further savings, while also avoiding the paint headaches that Tesla had to deal with when it ramped its previous vehicles, particularly the Model 3.
The absence of the stamping press and the paint shop in the Cybertruck’s production has another advantage, in the way that the vehicle’s production line could probably be done in a relatively small area. Without giant stamping presses and an expansive paint shop, after all, Tesla could produce the Cybertruck in an assembly line that is designed for speed.
The EV community was shocked by the starting price of the Cybertruck just as much as it was shocked by the vehicle’s design. Starting at $39,990, the base Cybertruck is very competitively priced and is chock full of tech that its competitors simply cannot hold a candle to. Couple this with a design that is optimized for efficiency, and the vehicle could very well be a disruptor on its own right in the highly-competitive pickup truck segment.

In a sign of things to come next year, SpaceX’s next – and third – 60-satellite Starlink launch is officially on the books, and – if all goes as planned – could make the company the proud owner of the world’s largest operational satellite constellation.
Accreditation deadline is December 16th, so the launch is likely NET late December.
On May 24th, Falcon 9 lifted off for the first time ever on a dedicated Starlink launch, placing 60 ‘v0.9’ prototype satellites in Low Earth Orbit (LEO), where they deployed solar arrays and fired up their own electric krypton thrusters to reach their operational ~550 km (340 mi) orbits. Of those 60 prototypes, several were intentionally deorbited while another handful suffered unintended failures, while 51 (85%) ultimately reached that final orbit and began operations.

Previously expected in mid-October, unspecified delays pushed SpaceX’s next Starlink launch – deemed Starlink-1, the first launch of ‘v1.0’ satellites – into November. On November 11th, Falcon 9 B1048 and a flight-proven payload fairing lifted off with 60 more Starlink satellites, also marking the first time a Falcon 9 booster completed four orbital launches and the first operational reuse of a recovered fairing. Upgraded with four times the overall bandwidth, improved structures, new Ka-band antennas, and more steerable ‘beams’ on each of those antennas, those 60 Starlink v1.0 satellites rapidly came online and began raising their orbits.
This time around, SpaceX received FCC approval to test satellites at a substantially lower altitude of ~350 km (220 mi) and launched to a parking orbit of just 280 km (175 mi), ensuring that any debris or failed spacecraft will reenter Earth’s atmosphere in just a matter of months while also completely avoiding added risk to the International Space Station (ISS) (~400 km). After a brisk ten or so days of active propulsion, 55 of those 60 satellites have raised their orbits to ~350 km, while ~20 of those 55 appear to be aiming for a final altitude somewhat higher, likely the start of a separate orbital plane.
The moment that Starlink-1 satellites began to arrive and stabilize at their 350-km operational orbits, nearly all of SpaceX’s 50 operational v0.9 satellites began lowering their orbits, potentially signaling a move down to Starlink-1’s operational altitude, or even an intentional deorbit of the entire prototype tranche (far less likely).
From nothing to #1
The same day that several dozen Starlink-1 satellites finished the climb up to their operational orbits, SpaceX announced media accreditation for its next Starlink launch, presumed to be Starlink-2. According to SpaceX, the mission is targeted for the last two weeks of December 2019, a schedule that will tighten as it gets closer. Previously expected to launch in early November, as few as two weeks after Starlink-1, Starlink-2 has suffered similar delays but still appears to be on track for 2019.

It’s assumed that Starlink-2 – like both dedicated missions preceding it – will launch 60 Starlink satellites. If that is, in fact, the case, the mission could mark a surprising but fully-expected milestone: with >170 functional satellites in orbit, SpaceX might become the proud owner of the world’s largest operational satellite constellation. Excluding two Tintin prototypes launched in February 2018 and 8 failed Starlink v0.9 spacecraft, a perfect Starlink-2 launch would raise SpaceX’s operational constellation to 172 satellites.
The only satellite operator anywhere close to those numbers is Planet Labs, an Earth observation analytics and satellite production company that has launched >400 satellites in its lifetime. Of those ~400 spacecraft, it’s believed that ~150 were operational as of October 2019 and Planet has another 12 Dove observation satellites scheduled to launch on November 27th. In simple terms, this means that SpaceX may become the world’s largest satellite operator after Starlink-2 and it all but guarantees that that will be the case after Starlink-3, a mission that will likely follow just weeks later.

Once SpaceX passes that milestone, it’s all but guaranteed that Starlink will retain the title of world’s largest satellite constellation for the indefinite future. According to SpaceX COO and President Gwynne Shotwell, as many as 24 Starlink launches are planned for 2020, and SpaceX’s burgeoning Washington-state satellite factory may soon be capable of supporting the unprecedented volume of production such a cadence will require. Even assuming rocky development, it’s hard to picture SpaceX’s next-generation Starship rocket taking more than two additional years to be ready for routine orbital missions to LEO, each of which should be able to place 400 Starlink satellites in orbit.
OneWeb is by far the closest thing SpaceX has to a serious Starlink competitor and its first operational launch of ~30 satellites has recently suffered delays, moving from December to late-January or February 2020. Roughly monthly launches (each with ~30 satellites) will nominally follow that first launch. After Starlink-2 or Starlink-3, the only conceivable ways that SpaceX could ever lose the title of world’s largest satellite operator would require catastrophic failure(s) grounding Falcon 9 and/or Starship for >1 year or outright bankruptcy and liquidation, neither of which seem particularly likely.

The Tesla Cybertruck’s design is so bold and unapologetically sci-fi that a lot of its clever features ended up being swept under the rug following the vehicle’s unveiling. Yet beyond its origami-style design and its Syd Mead-inspired looks, the Cybertruck is chock-full of innovative features. Take its Vault’s motorized tonneau bed cover, for example, which is downright hypnotizing to watch.
It’s pretty amusing to note that following the Cybertruck’s unveiling, critics of the vehicle online argued that the truck was not a real truck at all since it does not have a bed. This is a false assumption of course, since the Cybertruck actually has a 6.5-foot-long bed. It just so happened to be covered by a motorized tonneau cover that, according to the electric car maker, is sturdy enough to stand on. Tesla describes the feature in the vehicle’s page on its official website.
“With up to 3,500 pounds of payload capacity and adjustable air suspension, Cybertruck is the most powerful tool we have ever built, engineered with 100 cubic feet of exterior, lockable storage — including a magic tonneau cover that is strong enough to stand on,” Tesla wrote.
Fortunately, Tesla community member M@ttLond.re was able to capture footage of the Cybertruck’s tonneau cover in action from the unveiling event. Based on his video, it could be seen that the cover actually rolls past the rear window and gets stowed away underneath. The entire contraption is activated through a rather discrete button on the rear end of the Cybertruck. Such a system is a rather elegant Tesla-esque solution for such a utility-focused feature.
The Tesla Cybetruck’s motorized tonneau cover gives several advantages to the vehicle, the most notable of which is aerodynamics. Musk has also hinted at the cover being laid with solar panels, which could give the Cybertruck around 15 miles of range per day. These, together with the cover’s clever stow-away system, shows that a notable amount of thought went into designing the Cybertruck and its functions.
With the motorized tonneau cover engaged, drivers inside the vehicle would not be able to get a clear view of the Cybertruck’s rear using a traditional rearview mirror. To solve this, Tesla has gone ahead and utilized a rear camera in place of a traditional rearview mirror. It’s a very simple solution, and it taps into an already existing system that Tesla has used with its vehicles since the first-generation Model S came out seven years ago.
The Tesla Cybertruck is not for everyone. That much is sure. Elon Musk has given the internet ample warning in the months leading up to its release, stating several times that the Tesla Pickup Truck will be polarizing. Following the vehicle’s unveiling, Musks’ words have rung true. Yet, even in its polygonal, meme-worthy form, the Cybertruck appears to be gaining a notable number of supporters, even among those outside the Tesla community.
This could be seen in Elon Musk’s announcement that Tesla has already received 146k orders for the Cybertruck as of Saturday. That’s following an unveiling event that could have gone better, no advertising, overwhelmingly negative and sarcastic coverage from mainstream media, and absolutely no paid advertising. Musk also noted that so far, 42% of the Cybertuck’s reservation holders have opted for the dual-motor variant, 41% have selected the tri-motor setup, and 17% have ordered the vehicle’s $39,990 base version.
That’s not too bad for such a polarizing vehicle.

By now, the fact that Teslas are capable of slaying most high-performance production cars on the quarter-mile is common knowledge. With their instant torque, the Model S, Model X, and Model 3 are capable of launching very hard from a dead stop. This is why some motoring publications today have quietly shifted to half-mile races when benchmarking Teslas against the best fossil fuel cars that traditional automakers can offer.
Take Top Gear‘s Model 3 Performance review, for example. In it, the show opted to race the Model 3 Performance against the BMW M3, the Mercedes-AMG C 63 S, and the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio, three of the best high-performance sedans on the market today. The show’s host, Chris Harris, noted that since Teslas dominate on the quarter-mile, Top Gear has opted to extend the race to a half-mile run instead. The drag race ended with the Model 3 Performance still beating the BMW M3 and the Alfa Romeo Q4, and the C 63 S catching up and passing the Tesla just before the half-mile mark.
If a video from a Model 3 Performance owner is any indication, it appears that Teslas are becoming a bit hard to beat in half-mile races as well. At the No Fly Zone event at Gila Bend, AZ, the Tesla owner ended up being paired with a formidable foe: a 580 hp Lamborghini Huracan. The Huracan is no joke, and the vehicle is considered as part of the automotive world’s supercar lineup. With looks to kill and performance to match, the Huracan is not a vehicle that one would likely see competing in a race with a four-door midsize all-electric family sedan.
The start of the run was typical of a Tesla vs. gas-powered car drag race, with the Model 3 gaining a quick lead over the supercar due to its instant torque. This continued until the quarter-mile mark, with the Tesla still leading. But then, something remarkable happened. The Model 3 just kept going, all the way to the half-mile point. Mar10 W6, the Tesla owner, remarked that he hit the half-mile mark at around 136 mph and well over a car length ahead of the Huracan. And just like that, Tesla’s most conservative Performance-branded sedan managed to beat an actual supercar in the half-mile.
Looking at the video, several things definitely seemed to have gone wrong on the part of the Huracan. For one, the supercar’s driver appeared to be sleeping at the wheel, and based on how the vehicle performed, it appeared that the Lamborghini was not even in Launch Mode. Perhaps it’s an honest mistake, or maybe it was a good helping of hubris, but one thing is sure: these little errors all built up as the perfect setup for what could only be described as an upset between a bonafide supercar and a family hauler.

There are a ton of impressive innovations in the Tesla Cybertuck, from its origami-style design, its clever storage spaces, to its motorized tonneau cover. The daunting steel vehicle is also fitted with door handles that automatically pop out when they need to be used, similar to the first vehicle that the electric car maker has designed from the ground up: the Model S sedan.
Footage of the Cybertruck’s motorized door handles were recorded by Teslarati during a test ride of the vehicle, which were conducted following the pickup’s brief unveiling. As could be seen in the clip, the Blade Runner truck’s handles pop out when the door is about to be opened, and they pop back in to remain flush when the vehicle is in motion.
The whole door handle system of the Cybertruck is a dead ringer to the handles of the Model S, a vehicle that is also very special for CEO Elon Musk. The Model S’ automatic door handles were among the large premium sedan’s unique features when it was released, and it was one of its parts that truly established it as an all-electric car that is built around tech.
That being said, the Cybertruck’s Model S-esque door handles were likely fitted on the vehicle due to its utility. Tesla’s vehicles like the Model 3, Model Y, and Tesla Semi all use a door handle setup that is designed to be opened with little physical effort. Such a system is probably not the best for the Cybertruck.
This is likely due to the weight of the Cybertruck’s doors, which weigh about 60 to 80 lbs each. That’s a door that will need a serious grab-and-pull system to open, and one that definitely benefits from a fully-extended handle. This will result in some complexity in the Cybertruck’s door handle mechanism, but this is something that is likely a necessity considering the weight of the vehicle’s doors.
Longtime owners of the Model S would remember a time when Tesla was still mastering the design of the vehicle’s automatic door handles. At some point, the motorized door handles in some vehicles were bogged down due to issues with their cables and motors. Tesla later fixed these issues with an updated design, and the handles have continued to evolve over the years as the Model S was improved time and time again. With this in mind, it would be safe to assume that the Cybertruck’s motorized door handles will be fitted with Tesla’s latest and best setup available.
In a way, the fact that the door handles of the Cybertruck and the Model S are similar is representative of how far Tesla has gone over the years. When the company adopted the setup with the Model S, it was still learning the ropes and finding its groove. When it launched the Cybertruck, Tesla is already a company that has found its rhythm, and it is also a company that is finally ready to go bold and experiment with concepts that other carmakers would simply not have the guts to do.
The Cybertruck is Tesla’s most polarizing vehicle yet, though the pickup has started to gain some serious ground as consumers. Since launching the Cybertruck, the electric car maker has received around 187k reservations, as per a recent update from Elon Musk on Twitter.

Tesla has revealed its highly-anticipated pickup truck to the public, and it is every bit the monster that CEO Elon Musk has made it out to be. With its aggressive stance, high ground clearance, and massive frame, the Tesla’s CYBRTRK is quite a sight to behold. It also shows that while Tesla has pretty much created stunning city cars until today, the company is every bit as capable of creating a daunting machine that can perform just as well on paved roads as it does on rough terrain.
Design
The Tesla Cybertruck does not look like a traditional pickup. True to Elon Musk’s words, the vehicle does look like a futuristic armored personnel carrier that stepped out of the set of Blade Runner. Its straight sloping roof give the pickup a streamlined yet very unique look. As the Tesla CEO has stated in the past, the Cybertruck won’t look like any other pickup on the road today.
That being said, there are several key design aspects that are notable about the Cybertruck. These include its extremely angular body, its large bed, and its high ground clearance. The Cybertruck also has a thick stainless steel body, which Tesla demonstrated by having a sledgehammer hit the pickup’s door panel. The vehicle is also fitted with Tesla’s Armor Glass, which unfortunately cracked after a large steel ball was thrown at it onstage. The metal ball didn’t go through the glass though, which is a plus.
Tesla has pretty much mastered the art of keeping the specs of its upcoming vehicles’ secret. As it turns out, the Cybertruck’s performance figures are definitely worth the secrecy, as they are flat-out insane. The vehicle is equipped with a standard single motor and can be upgraded to dual and tri-motors. Just as Musk said, the Cybertruck, despite its size, is quite nimble, thanks to its instant torque and adaptive air suspension that can adjust height to meet the vehicle’s intended purpose. These ultimately allow the Cybertruck to hit 60 mph in just 2.9 seconds, with handling comparable to a Porsche.

Special Features
Pickups are utility vehicles by nature, and as such, they are used primarily for work on locations such as farms or construction sites. Luxury pickups exist that prioritize comfort over utility, but Tesla’s monster pickup has chosen to do both. The interior of the Cybertruck is classic Tesla in the way that it’s minimalist and airy, with plush seats and a massive touchscreen that’s optimized for work and even entertainment. This, however, is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the pickup truck’s notable features. Others include:

Earlier this year, Elon Musk has mentioned that the Tesla Cybertruck would start at $49,000 at the highest. Tesla has stayed true to its CEO’s words, pricing the futuristic pickup truck very aggressively compared to other EV trucks and ICE-powered luxury pickups. Tesla’s Cybertruck does have a number of higher-priced trims, and these cost substantially more, while offering significantly more.

Tesla’s Cybertruck may be as polarizing as Elon Musk previously suggested, but its combination of affordable price, killer specs, and crazy performance makes it a rather unusual-looking yet potentially formidable entry into the pickup truck segment. Yet, amidst all these capabilities, it appears that Tesla is also looking to make its pickup as the ultimate vehicle for camping and overlanding.
Images of the Cybertruck released online show that the vehicle will have an attachment that transforms the pickup into a camper, complete with a small kitchen and a table. Looking at the image shared by Tesla, it appears that the company has included as many features as it can into the Cybertruck, except the kitchen sink. Considering Elon Musk and Tesla’s tendency to adopt some humor in their creations, it would not be too farfetched if later iterations of the Cybertruck’s portable kitchen ends up getting an actual working sink.
Vehicles that engage in activities such as camping or Overlanding tend to stay in one location for several days. This means that if the Cybertruck were to be used for such purposes, the vehicle will likely remain parked in an outdoor location for extended periods. Tesla, if Elon Musk’s recent tweets are any indication, actually has a plan for this, with the CEO stating that the Cybertruck’s rear will have a Solar Powered tonneau cover, allowing the vehicle to recharge its batteries while it’s exposed to the sun.
The Tesla CEO provided some details on this design element in a response to a Tesla Model 3 owner on Twitter. In his response, Musk stated that Tesla will introduce an option to add solar power to the Cybertruck, allowing the massive pickup to generate about 15 miles of range per day on its own. Fold-out solar wings could also be added later, which would generate about 30-40 miles of range per day. This, according to Musk, actually covers the average miles per day traveled by drivers in the United States.

Musk’s recent tweets suggest that Tesla’s Cybertruck is a vehicle that has been a long time coming. By providing the Cybertruck with a way to generate power on its own (albeit in limited quantities), the addition of a built-in PV system into the pickup would enable the vehicle to gain more range as it stays parked in an outdoor spot. Such a system could even be useful for homeowners whose Cybertrucks will be parked at the driveway, where the vehicles will likely be exposed to the sun on a regular basis.
Elon Musk has stated multiple times in the past that the Tesla Cybertruck would be a polarizing vehicle that looks like it came out of the set of the Blade Runner franchise. Its design suggests that this was the case. That being said, the pickup is very impressive, with its ultra-hard stainless steel exoskeleton, Tesla Armor Glass, a 0-60 mph time of 2.9 seconds for its top trim, up to 500 miles of range per charge, and a premium, tri-motor AWD variant. Yet, for all its special features and unique look, the Cybertruck is very aggressively priced, with the base variant starting at a very reasonable $39,900.
