Tesla Model 3 acceleration showcased in high-speed Autobahn sprint

A Tesla enthusiast from Germany has taken the Model 3 to the Autobahn to observe the acceleration and high-speed performance of the compact electric car. The trip, which was recently live-streamed on YouTube, featured the Model 3 accelerating aggressively on the highway, reaching speeds of up to 209 km/h (130 mph) at one point.

The Autobahn sprint was featured in a live-stream by Germany-based Tesla Marcus on April 28. As could be seen in the Tesla enthusiast’s video, the Model 3 is capable of hitting speeds above 200 km/h (124 mph) without losing any of its stability or maneuverability.

During each sprint, the Model 3 showcased impressive acceleration, at one point even hitting 209 km/h (130 mph). What was particularly interesting was that in each attempt, the Model 3 seemed like it could still go much faster, as the driver had to pull back on the accelerator in each of the sprints due to traffic on the road. According to the driver of the vehicle, the stability of the Model 3 was comparable to the Model S, though the difference in the acceleration between the two electric cars was evident.

“I would stay the stability is just as stable as the Model S. The acceleration, however, is not quite there (with the Model S),” the driver noted.

The Model 3 might not have the insane acceleration present in its larger siblings — the Model S and the Model X — but the compact electric car is proving to be a nimble, capable force for high-speed driving. Earlier this year, a Tesla Model 3 took on the Laguna Seca Raceway, and despite getting pushed to its limits, the car was able to complete the driver’s entire track session. For nine laps, the Model 3 did not exhibit a drop in power and performance. The Model 3 lasted so consistently, in fact, that it quite literally outlasted its brake pads.

Just recently, we also reported on a Model 3 that took on an Autocross track. During that particular session, the Model 3 showcased its remarkable cornering prowess, with the owner of the electric car comparing the vehicle’s handling and performance to the Subaru BRZ, the Mazda Miata, and the BMW Z3 — ICE cars that are famed for their maneuverability.

If any, the Model 3’s performance during Tesla Marcus’ high-speed Autobahn run is in line with the observations of Detroit veteran Sandy Munro, who noted that while the car had some build quality issues, it was incredibly impressive when it came to sheer driving performance. During Munro’s analysis of the vehicle, the teardown specialist noted that everything from the Model 3’s suspension down to its battery was industry-leading, and if Tesla had only addressed its build-quality issues, the company would have “mopped the floor” with the competition.

Watch Tesla Marcus‘ high-speed Model 3 Autobahn sprints in the video below. The high-speed runs start at 1:33:17 in the video.
