Elon Musk’s latest Instagram post included an instance of self-trolling and a rare, first-person view of a Tesla inside a Boring Co. test tunnel.
Musk recently went on Instagram to share a brief session he had flying a helicopter. Much of his social media followers’ humor, Musk commented on his post, stating that he can “fly a helicopter through a cut-out shape of a helicopter the same size as the helicopter.” Seemingly trolling himself, Musk also responded to his comment, saying “that is not true.”
Helicopter sessions and self-trolling aside, however, Elon Musk’s latest Instagram upload also included a particularly compelling image of a Tesla inside a Boring Company tunnel. Unlike images that were shared before, Musk’s recent post featured a first-person view of the tunnel from the dashboard of the Tesla.

The map displayed on the display of the electric car revealed that the vehicle was under Crenshaw Blvd. in Hawthorne, CA, which suggests that the tunnel in Musk’s picture was the 2-mile Boring Company test tunnel that begins east of SpaceX’s headquarters and extends along 120th street. This is also the same site where Musk revealed the first prototype of The Boring Company’s car elevator last year. During that time, Elon Musk shared a video of a Tesla Model S being lowered into a would-be electric skate and would-be Hyperloop-capable tunnel.
The Boring Company might appear to be a side project for Elon Musk, but the tunneling startup has managed to take significant strides forward in the last few months. Just recently, The Boring Company became one of the final two companies bidding for the proposed downtown Chicago-O’Hare transportation system. Currently, the only companies left bidding for the project are the The Boring Co. and O’Hare Express LLC, a group that includes participants from Meridiam, Antarctica Capital, JLC Infrastructure, Mott MacDonald, and First Transit.
In true Elon Musk fashion, the Tesla, SpaceX, and Boring Company CEO suggested on Twitter that it would probably be better if Chicago selects both his tunneling startup and O’Hare Express LLC as contractors for the transportation system. After all, Musk noted, “monopolies are so boring.”
Recently, Musk announced the latest addition to his line of The Boring Co.-branded products. After the Hat and the (Not A) Flamethrower, Musk announced that the Boring Company would start selling interlocking bricks made from the rocks excavated from its tunnels. Unofficially dubbed as the “Boring Bricks” by the billionaire entrepreneur, the life-size LEGO-like interlocking blocks would be sold as kits and as material for low-cost housing projects. As a final touch, Musk assured his Twitter followers that the Boring Bricks are guaranteed to be flamethrower-proof.
