Rivian debuts new blue R1T color at customer preview event

Rivian held a pre-order event in Seattle, Washington for its reservation holders over the weekend, unveiling a new blue color for its R1T all-electric pickup truck.

The exclusive event was held on September 27 and gives an opportunity for those who have pre-ordered Rivian’s R1T or R1S to see the vehicles in person, giving them an idea of what they will be able to expect from the versatile truck or SUV.

Rivian has utilized a reservation event before. The company recently held an event one week prior in Atlanta, Georgia on September 13 and is expected to hold another event in San Francisco, California sometime in the future, as a date has not yet been determined.

The highlight of the Seattle event was the newly released blue color for the Rivian R1T pickup. The company unveiled a blue truck to those invited to the event. This color has not yet been talked about or even mentioned by Plymouth, Michigan-based automaker. The addition of the color will give those who have ordered the truck a second option, as the only available colorway beforehand was silver. The silver R1T was also on display for those in attendance. The vehicle will go into production in late 2020.

The R1T, starting at $69,000, is a great option for those who want a pickup truck with the capability to run on offroad terrain and will also be environmentally friendly. The R1T has a three-foot wading depth, 0-60 MPH in less than 3 seconds and over 11,000 lbs of towing capacity. The vehicle will be available with three different battery packs: 105 kWh, 135 kWh and 180 kWh, known as the “Megapack”. The packs will allow for 230 miles, 300+ miles and 400+ miles of range, respectively.

Rivian recently made headlines by patenting a unique airbag system that will allow for its driver and passengers to be protected from their most vulnerable sides: where the center console is located. The system will utilize a series of sensors in the event of a crash in order to protect the passengers in the most effective manner.

Amazon recently purchased 100,000 vans from Rivian that will eventually become the company’s delivery fleet. Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos has invested $700 million into Rivian, so it is no surprise that he opted to use its vehicles in order to become more environmentally conscious. Bezos was under pressure from Amazon employees to take steps to become a more sustainable company. He eventually caved after many employees threatened to strike, but Amazon has proven that they will take the necessary steps to be more Earth-friendly with the addition of not only Rivian’s battery-powered vehicles but also more sustainable packaging for its products.
